This week in Lisbon mixed warnings with celebration: authorities declared a severe fire risk across 23 municipalities and recalled a mislabeled sunscreen just as summer heat peaks, while diesel prices head for their steepest jump since March. At the same time the city stayed lively, with the Gulbenkian marking 70 years with free entry, a huge LEGO exhibition opening at Cordoaria Nacional, and a first of its kind automated pharmacy debuting in Parque das Nações.

The Week's Biggest Stories

Severe fire risk declared for 23 municipalities this week

Metro upgrades will disrupt Praça de Espanha station in August

Lisbon's metro network will carry out station upgrade works at Praça de Espanha from August 10 to September 20. Train stops and access at the station will change for the duration, so commuters on that line should plan for altered routes once the works begin.

Free help now available for the rent support program

Consumer group DECO has partnered with housing authority IHRU to offer free guidance on Portugal's Extraordinary Rent Support Program. The initiative is aimed at families struggling to keep up with rental payments amid financial pressure, giving them a place to turn for help with the application process.

Fuel prices set for sharp rise next week

Diesel could rise by as much as 13.5 cents per liter next week, the largest weekly increase since March, driven by global market conditions. Drivers in and around Lisbon should expect noticeably higher pump prices in the coming days.

Sunscreen brand recalled over SPF labeling issue

Health regulator Infarmed ordered the withdrawal of Perfect Skin 50 FPS sunscreen after finding its actual protection factor did not match what was on the label. Anyone using the product has been told to stop immediately, timely given peak summer sun exposure.

Gulbenkian Museum offers free entry through July 26

The Gulbenkian Museum is marking its 70th anniversary with free admission until July 26, plus a special concert this week. The museum recently completed renovation work on its exhibits, making this a good window to visit before regular ticketing returns.

Massive LEGO exhibition opens at Cordoaria Nacional July 25

Europe's largest LEGO model exhibition opens July 25 at Cordoaria Nacional, displaying more than 120 models including a 7 meter ship and a giant dragon. It looks set to be one of the bigger family outings in Lisbon this summer.

Europe's first fully automated pharmacy opens in Parque das Nações

Pharma&Go has opened in Parque das Nações as Europe's first fully autonomous pharmacy, letting customers enter by scanning a payment card and shop without queues or a cashier. An AI system manages the checkout, offering a quicker option for residents in that part of the city.
